Winchester Model 1892 rifle manufactured in 1907. The rifle has a 24-inch octagon takedown barrel and full-length magazine. The barrel has the standard dovetail mounted front sight with nickel-silver blade and set screw and sporting style buckhorn rear sight with sliding insert and serrated elevator thumb piece. The stock and forearm are varnished straight grain walnut. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver and crescent buttplate have a blue finish and the hammer and loading lever are color casehardened. The loading gate is niter blue. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN.CONN.U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14. 1884", ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "38 W.C.F." is roll stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The oval, Winchester, "W/P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel between the caliber designation and the rear sight and on the top of the receiver. "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" is roll-stamped in three lines on the upper receiver tang. The serial number, "389148" is roll-stamped across the underside of the receiver. Designed by John M. Browning as a replacement for the Model 1873 rifle, the Model 1892 proved to be one of the most popular of all the lever-action Winchester rifles. Winchester manufactured approximately 1,004,067 Model 1892 rifles and carbines between 1892 and 1941.

Excellent. The rifle retains 95% plus of the original blue finish. The only significant finish wear is on the buttplate where the finish is thin and has some scattered spots of discoloration. Wear on the receiver and take-down collar is limited to some very minor handling marks. The lever and hammer retain nearly all of the muted case colors. The loading gate has almost all of the niter blue finish. The bore is bright. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The walnut stock and forearm retain nearly all of the original varnish finish and show only very minor handling wear. This is an excellent example of a scarce Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Sporting Rifle.
