Description:

This is a Victorian era officer's cap of the 12th or The Prince of Wales's Royal Lancers. The skull and peak are black patent leather with gold lace around the waist and lower edge of the skull. The peak has gold purl stitched in three lines. The mortar board top is red melton cloth with gold bullion cord crossing the top and descending the angled corners. There is a gold bullion plume boss with "VR" cypher supporting a red feather plume with a ring. The rayed gilt plate has the Prince of Wales's crest at the very top over a Victorian crown over The Royal Arms of Great Britain over the "EGYPT" battle honor all in silver. There are 5 other battle honors on gilt metal banners. Lion's head ear bosses suspend a gilt velvet backed chin chain. The front peak is lined with green skived leather. The sweat band is natural skived leather and there is a purple silk lining with a "SANDILANDS & SON" label. With an additional officer's 12th Lancers lance cap plate with 6 battle honors.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, the patent leather shows only minor wear from the chin chain and a few light scratches. The red melton cloth shows some small areas of insect tracking. The gilt components have a bright appearance with minor wear. The silver components have a dark aged patina. The interior has only slight discoloration. The additional plate has a generally bright appearance with some tarnishing. This is an excellent Victorian era Officer's lance cap.
