High quality militia officer's helmet pommel sword and brass scabbard c.1830-1860. The sword has a 30-inch double edge blade with central fuller. The blade is decorated with acid etched dry needle engraved foliate designs surrounding stands of arms and military trophies. The hilt features a detailed cast brass, helmet pommel, single link chain guard, engraved sheet silver grip and cast brass spread eagle cross guards with shell-shaped finals. The brass scabbard has two cast brass foliate suspension bands and drag. The scabbard body is engraved with an eagle and shield, military trophies and foliate designs.

Fine. The helmet pommel hilt has traces of the original gilt finish in protected areas. The detail on the counter guard pommel and grip is excellent. The blade has some age discoloration, there are several nicks in the edge and the engraving is light. The scabbard is very good with crisp engraving; wear is limited to several shallow dents near the drag. This is a wonderful example of a high quality deluxe pre-Civil War militia officer's helmet pommel sword.
