Description:

Approximately 20,000 of these unique revolvers were manufactured from 1861 to around 1865. Approximately 12,000 were purchased under government contracts. The frame top strap is marked "SAVAGE R.F.A. Co. MIDDLETOWN. CT./H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856/JANUARY 18 1859. MAY 15 1860". There are no other visible markings. The unique action functions with a lever and a trigger. The lever has a loop for the middle finger. When the lever is pulled back the cylinder turns and the hammer is cocked, the lever is released and the trigger is pulled to fire the weapon.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 70% original blue finish and the cylinder retains 40% original blue finish on one side with the balance on the opposite side a lightly pitted smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina. There is some scattered mild pitting. The slightly undersized refinished grips are good with a couple missing chips at the bottoms, a sliver of wood missing from the right panel, and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
