Description:

This is an example of one of the percussion Civil War carbines converted during the Indian Wars, to fire the .50-70 center fire cartridge. The carbine has a brass front sight blade and folding, adjustable leaf rear sight with unmarked base and graduated to 800 yards, and the percussion Lawrence pellet priming system. The barrel is absent of the standard sharps marking and the New Model 1859 marking at the breech is weak. The receiver and lock have the standard Sharps and Lawrence patent markings. The left rear of the barrel and top of the breech block are marked with the letter "F". Mounted with a smooth oil finished black walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a iron carbine buttplate and "DFC" ribbon cartouche on the left side of the stock.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as Arsenal refurbished with 85% thinning blue finish remaining on the barrel mixed with smooth plum patina. The sights are contemporary replacements. The lock and receiver retain 60% case colors with a smooth grayish brown patina on the balance. The wood is fine with some minor touch-ups and some finish loss, and overall only a few minor dings and dents. The lock and receiver markings are clear. The action is excellent.
