Description:

This is a much sought after example of an early Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine with the brass barrel band, patch box and buttplate. Manufactured from 1859 to 1866 with a total production of about 3,000, this carbine is fitted with a sling bar and ring, Lawrence folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards, brass blade front sight and a Lawrence pellet primer. The carbine has a blue barrel and casehardened receiver. The top of the barrel is marked with the three line address in front of the rear sight and "NEW MODEL 1859" at the breech. The rear sight base, lock and receiver have the standard Sharps and R.S. Lawrence patent markings. The serial number is stamped on the top of the receiver tang and the inside of the patch box door is stamped "134". Mounted with a walnut smooth forearm and straight grip stock with sling swivel.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 40% original thin blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. There are a few minor dings on the right side of the receiver. The brass has an aged patina. The wood is very fine with some scattered minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
