Description:

Deluxe U.S. Model 1902 "Saber For All Officers" with non-regulation gold-plated hilt suspension bands and drag. A gold-plated relief cast pierced Georgia State Seal forms the lower suspension band. The regulation style hilt has a bird's head pommel, three branch counter guard pierced for a saber knot, down-turned quillon and early style horn grip with deep finger grooves. The 34 inch curved blade has a single fuller. The obverse of the blade has a frosted panel decorated with acid-etched military trophies, a spread eagle and shield and a stand of colors surrounded by scroll-work. The reverse of the blade is etched with the maker's name and address "M.C. LILLEY/& CO/COLUMBUS, O" and a frosted panel with "U.S" flanked by stands of colors, military trophies and scrollwork. The scabbard is nickel plated with gold plated mountings. This is a flashy example of a rarely encountered non-regulation Model 1902 Saber.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The hilt and scabbard mountings retain nearly 95% of the gold plated finish. The outer branch of the counter guard is slightly bent and the horn grip shows some minor handling wear. The blade is excellent and retains close to 95% of the original finish. The scabbard is excellent overall with some very minor age spotting on the nickel-plated body. If you reside in Georgia, you must own this!
