Description:

Manufactured circa 1865 to 1873 with a total production of approximately 18,000. These revolvers were originally manufactured as a percussion revolver and then they were factory converted to cartridge. This revolver features factory floral scroll engraving on the side barrel flats at the front and rear, cylinder, frame and lower rear sides of the loading lever. The upper barrel flats and top strap sides have a scallop and dot border. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line patent dates/address over "NEW MODEL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom barrel flat and left side of the frame under the grip. The rear cylinder conversion plate is marked "40" and "590". "40" is also marked on the bottom barrel flat at the muzzle. The matching serial number is also marked on the inside of the left grip panel. The revolver was silver plated with a casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger. Fitted with smooth ivory grips with scrimshawed inscription "L.A.J. to J.M.J." behind the grip screw and "to J.M.J." in front of the screw.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The revolver retains 75% of the original silver plating with areas that have darkened with age mixed with a smooth dark patina. 60% of the original nitre blue remains on the trigger. Traces of gold remain on loading lever and hammer. The grips are excellent with an attractive grain and mellow aged patina. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent. Few Remington handguns are of this extremely high quality!
