Description:

Manufactured in the early 1860s by Union Knife Company, Naugatuck, Ct. for the inventor John Lindsay with only about 100 manufactured. The pistol is chambered for a 45 caliber superposed load and the single trigger operates the double hammers in proper sequence. This mechanism was also employed in a military musket and is one of the distinct oddities in American arms collecting. Lindsay was an employee of the Springfield Armory and his attempts at a government contract for the pistols was unsuccessful. The only visible markings on the pistol are the serial number on the bottom of the frame and "J. WATTSON" non-factory, period stamped on the right side of the frame. This is surrounded by faint stars. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, brass frame and fitted with smooth two-piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Good as period refinished. The refinished barrel retains half of the dull blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The front sight is replaced and the muzzle recrowned. The once polished brass has an aged patina. The grips are very good with a small chip on each toe and a few small dings on the bottoms. The action is fine.
