Colt .44 Rimfire Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1876. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter dated 1962 that lists the caliber as .44 and states that the revolver was one of a shipment of 50 pistols sent to Mayer & Geiger in New York City, on June 28, 1876. The revolver has a nickel-plated finish with casehardened hammer, niter blue screws and trigger and a one-piece varnished walnut grip. The revolver has "bullseye" ejector rod head found on early Colt Single Action revolvers, rimfire firing pin with elongated, bordered knurling on the spur and first style ejector housing with barrel boss. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the first style legend "+ COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.+" in script letters with slanted crosses at either end. The caliber designation "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the early Colt "two-date/two-line" patent markings. "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The loading gate is roll-stamped with the assembly number "255". A Colt "C" inspection mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel behind the boss and on the rear face of the cylinder. The full serial number, "749" is stamped on the barrel beneath the ejector housing on the underside of the frame, trigger guard and back strap and on the side of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Excellent. The Colt .44 Rimfire Single Action revolvers typically saw hard use and are rarely found let alone in exceptional condition. This exceptional revolver is one of the best original .44 Rimfire Colt Single Actions extant. The revolver retains 85% plus of the original nickel-plated finish. There is some flaking and finish loss along the sides of the barrel and ejector housings and along the leading edge of the cylinder. The nickel plated finish is thin on the top strap and on the recoil shield. The case colors on the hammer have faded to a dark gray patina but flashes of blue are still visible. The slightly undersize grip is in very fine condition with scattered light handling wear and retains more than 85% of the original "piano finish" varnish. All of the markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. This is an extraordinary example of a Colt .44 Rimfire Single Action revolver with nickel plated finish.
