Description:

Manufactured in 1956, the first year of production for the Second Generation Single Action Army revolver. One line address on top of the barrel, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 44 SPECIAL" on the left and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and the left side of the grip straps under the grip. The grips are numbered "999". Matching assembly number on the back of the frame and on the loading gate. Casehardened frame with blue remaining parts, blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter shows that the revolver had a 5 1/2 inch 45 Colt caliber barrel at time of shipment, blue finish, grips "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 5 to Gunnung Wholesale, Inc. Wichita, Kansas on April 5, 1856.

Rating Definition:

Very good as altered (see above) with 90% original blue finish remaining, showing some muzzle wear and a few minor scratches and dings on the barrel and the grip straps thinning to a smooth brown patina. The frame retains 98% original case colors. The grips have faded to brown and remain very good with a few small dings on the lower edges and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
