Description:

This is a Victorian era tunic and trousers for a Major of the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues). The tunic is made of a heavy, dark blue wool with red cuffs, collar and piping with a heavy red fabric and quilted brown silk lining. The cuffs and collar have embroidered gold bullion floral decorations. The buttons have the Victorian crown over "RHG". There are braided gold bullion cord epaulettes with braided and unbraided cords hanging from the right epaulette. There is a piece of card with handwritten notes sewn inside about a Major William (illegible) Thomson. With a pair of dark blue trousers with a red stripe running down the sides.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing some minor wear with the top and bottom buttons absent. The buttons have an aged patina. The gold bullion and embroidery have aged. There are some small holes and stains on the silk lining. The trousers are very good.
