Description:

This is an Edwardian era Officer's lance cap that has a black patent leather skull and peak. Heavy gold embroidery encircles the cap waist. A black patent leather mortar board is supported by ridged black melton cloth sides. Gilt bands run down the corner angles. The corners are tipped with gilt leaves. A gilt strip rims the peak. On the left is a gold bullion rosette plume boss fastened by a gilt button. The boss supports a 16 inch black stitched swan's feather plume without a ring. Two lion's head ear bosses suspend a gilted, velvet backed chin chain. The gilt and silver helmet plate features an acanthus and oak wreath topped by the Edwardian crown and centered by Bedfordshire Castle backed by an eagle. Crimson silk lining with "HAWKES & Co. LONDON" maker's mark.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, there is some finish wear on the leather from the chin chain and some minor crazing. The gilt components are also excellent with light wear. The lining is excellent as well with light wear.
