Brass frame with patriotic motif engraving on each side marked "MILES" in an oval on the left side and "LONDON " on the right, with recessed "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proofmarks on the bottom of the frame at the breech. There is a pivoting casehardened lever mounted on the left side of the frame for firing the bottom barrel. Blue screw-off barrels, casehardened trigger guard, hammer and frizzen, sliding hammer safety and fitted with a one piece walnut grip with a finely checkered back strap. John Miles worked in London as a gunmaker from 1769 to 1798, immigrated to Philadelphia and continued as a gunmaker until passing away in 1808.

Very fine as period refinished with most of the blue finish remaining on the barrels and 95% case colors on the remaining parts. The brass has been polished at some time and remains relatively bright. The grip has been refinished and the checkering freshened, and remains very good with a few small light scratches and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is fine.
