Description:

This is a rare Regency era Royal Horse Guards Officer's helmet. The skull and peaks are gilt copper. The helmet plate is gilt copper with square ended rays with the Hanoverian Coat-of-Arms in the center, a crown at the top centered between two plumes and the battle honor "WATERLOO" on the right side and "PENINSULA" on the left. There are large acanthus sprays on the rear sides of the skull. There is a smooth sided comb with a bearskin crest at the top. The lion's head ear bosses suspend velvet backed chin scales with paw clasps. The inside of the peaks are lined with brown leather and there is a white quilted silk liner.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the skull and peaks have a bright appearance with some areas where silver/copper show through. There are scattered minor dents in the skull. The replacement bearskin crest is excellent. The silk liner is very good with some stains. This is a very good example of a rare Regency era Royal Horse Guard helmet.
