Description:

This is a George V era officer's lance cap for the 17th or Duke of Cambridge's Own Lancers. The skull an peak are black patent leather. There is gold lace around the waist and lower edge of the skull. The peak has gold bullion sewn in three bands. The mortar board top is white melton cloth with ridged sides and gold bullion cord crossing the top and descending down the angled corners. There is a large gold bullion plume boss with "GRV" cypher supporting a white feather plume with a ring. The rayed plate has the King's crown over The Royal Arms of Great Britain with the skull badge of the 17th Lancers in the center surrounded by 6 battle honors. Two lion's head ear bosses suspend a velvet backed chin chain. The front peak is lined with green skived leather. There is a natural leather sweat band and purple lining with "CATER & Co." label.

Rating Definition:

Fine, the patent leather shows some small indentions and some wear from the chin chain. The gold lace shows some aging. The plate shows a generally bright appearance with the silvered components having a dark aged patina with some copper showing through on the high edges. The sweat band has some stains. The lining is excellent.
