Description:

This is a Regency era officer's shako of the 28th Regiment. The body is composed of black felt with a wide silver lace band at the top and a thin silver lace band at the bottom. The peak and top are black patent leather. There is a silver lace with red center strip around the silvered front plate. The plate has a crown at the top with four battle honors circled around a lion standing on a crown over "28". There is a black fabric cockade above the plate on the silver lace band with a silvered "sphinx/EGYPT" badge. Above the cockade is a white over red feather plume with a ring having a gilt floral decorated base. There are silvered lion's head bosses at the top right and left side. There is a large "sphinx/EGYPT/28" badge on the rear. The velvet backed silvered chin scales have four leaf clover shaped bosses with a floral design at the center. The sweat band is natural color leather with an ink stamped Royal Arms of Great Britain and a red silk lining.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the body and patent leather show little wear. The silvered components have a dark aged patina. The stained silk lining is mostly detached. The sweat band is starting to detach in a couple areas.
