Description:

This is an example of a 9th Light Dragoon Officer's "Tarleton" helmet used until circa 1812. The skull and peak are black patent leather with a bearskin crest. The right side of the helmet has a silvered copper floral plate with a banner marked "DIEU ET MON DROIT" at the bottom. There is a black turban wrapped around the center with a white cut feather plume and three white metal chains on each side. At the top of the front peak is a silvered copper band reading "IX LIGHT DRAGOONS". The inside is lined with linen.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the leather peak has some dents and flaking. The silvered parts show moderate wear with bright copper showing on the high edges. The chains have some oxidation. The bearskin crest and plume are very good and probably period replacements. The linen is very good with staining.
