Description:

This is a scarce example of a Defense of Gibraltar Medal or Eliott's medal. The Eliott's medal was awarded to Hanoverian troops who took part in the Siege of Gibraltar, 1779-1783. The reverse is inscribed "BRUDERSCHAFT" which is German for "brotherhood" above a wreath containing the names of three Hanoverian commanders and General Elliot. The obverse shows a Gibraltar scene with "PER TOT DISCRIMINA RERUM" above "XIII SEP./MDCCLXXXII". The Siege of Gibraltar from 1779 to 1783 was the longest siege endured by British forces and was a British victory over Spanish and French forces who were attempting to capture Gibraltar from the British during the American War of Independence.

Rating Definition:

Fine with some minor handling marks and the silver having dark aged patina in the protected areas.
