Description:

This is a unique example of a Mauser commercial contract pistol that has the early style "Bolo" frame with the later style small ring hammer and side frame Mauser markings. This series of 1896 pistol was termed a "Bolo" broomhandle due to the unusual shape of the pistol grip. The top of the chamber has the standard three line Mauser factory address, with the standard "double crown over U" proof on the left side of the frame, over the serial number. The bottom of the barrel has three small proof stamps, vertically struck. (Writer believes these to be military test proofs). The right rear side of the frame is marked with the later, two-line Mauser markings of "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A NECKAR". It is fitted with the standard blade front sight with a tangent rear sight graduated from 100-500 meters. The grips are factory checkered walnut which are seldom encountered. The serial number 29678 is in the range of six-shot models and ten-shot models with large ring hammer.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 75% plus of the original blue finish, with even wear and blue loss overall. The grips are fine, with moderate wear present across the tops of the checkering. The front sight has been crudely modified during period of usage. A unique "Bolo" Mauser Broomhandle Pistol!
