Description:

This is an exceptional example of a WWII K98 high turret sniper rifle that was manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a Schneider & Co. 4x scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and they were in service from their introduction in 1939 to the end of the war. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, the left side has an "eagle 135" and Nazi firing proofs flanking the serial number. The receiver side wall marked "Mod. 98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and "44 W 90" across the top. The rifle has milled barrel bands and stamped floor plate and trigger guard. The matching bolt is a correct late war version with the milled safety. The rifle is fitted with an all blue sniper scope made by Josef Schneider with leather lens covers, marked "DIALYTAN 4x/dkl" (the wartime code for Josef Schneider & Co. Optische Werke, Kreuznach), followed by an "+" with elevation knob mounted in the center top with graduations from 1 to 8. The front scope ring is numbered to the gun. The optic end lens cover is stamped with an "eagle/WaA414" proof mark. All visible numbers match including the cleaning rod which is numbered "116". The bottom of the receiver ahead of the floor plate is marked "byf" over two "eagle/135" proof marks. Hooded ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, and mounted with a laminated stock and handguard with cupped buttplate. The right side and bottom of the buttstock is marked with an "eagle/WaA135" proof and the grip area is marked with the Nazi firing proof. Complete with a brown leather cross hatch sling and muzzle cover.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 99% of the original blue finish with some mild thinning on the bolt handle and minimal usage wear on the bolt, and a couple of light scratches. The stock is also excellent with a few scattered minor dings and dents. The scope is excellent on the outside with 95% original finish, thinning on each end and some smooth gray patina on the adjusting knob and base. The optics are a little hazy. The sling is very good with a few minor scuffs and some minor wear. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. An exceptionally nice, correct matching Mauser K98 Turret sniper rifle.
