This is a standard early WWII K98 rifle as produced by the Mauser-Werkes factory in Borsigwalde outside Berlin as issued to the German Luftwaffe. The top of the receiver is stamped "ar / 41" with an eagle firing proof and serial number on the left side and three early "Eagle/26" Waffenamt proofs on the right side. The receiver side wall still has the block "Mod. 98" markings and it has the early milled "H" pattern front barrel band with milled trigger guard and floor plate all correctly proofed with a small "Eagle/26" Waffenamt proof. The rear of the barrel is marked with the matching serial number and single Eagle firing proof, It is fitted with an early laminated stock and hand guard correctly numbered and proofed on the underside of the stock with the right side having the single "Eagle/L" Luftwaffe proof and two additional "Eagle/WaA 26" Waffenamt proofs, all below the stock disc. It is fitted with the early style flat sheet metal buttplate. This rifle is complete with the original cleaning rod, front sight cover, rubber muzzle cover, original leather sling and an original WWII complete German "tobacco can" field cleaning kit. The kit has all the items inside, pull chain, bakelite oiler, nylon brushes and small spoon handle disassemble tool. The can is marked "cxn" on top.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 85% of the original wartime blue finish remaining with blue and finish loss on the exposed areas of the metal parts, such as the trigger guard and floor plate, barrel bands, bolt are etc. the stock and hand guard are both near very good overall, with both showing numerous handling marks, scratches and light pressure dents and dings overall from actual field use. The rifle has the correct serial numbered parts, all of which are matching to include the stock. A fine example of a scarce and desirable Luftwaffe K98 rifle.
