This is the earliest known Walther Model 9 pistol and the first engraved Model 9. Engraved circa 1929, this rare and unique Walther Model 9 was done for Walther by a member of the Zella-Mehlis guild prior to employment of an in-house engraver. The pistol is signed "C. Willig" on the front of the frame below the barrel. In all probability, this pistol was engraved by the same individual who engraved the Walther Mod. PP commissioned for King Carol of Romania. The pistol is fully covered with English-style fancy floral scroll engraving with gold inlaid wire bordering on the slide and frame and decorative accents on top of the barrel. The right side of the slide is engraved "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur.)" in a panel, the right side "Walther's Patent Mod. 9" over the Walther banner and the serial number is marked on the right rear of the frame, also in a panel. "Crown/N" proof marks are marked on the right side of the slide and frame. The pistol has the early style magazine that lacks the lip on the floor plate to aid extraction and the floor plate is engraved in the same style as the pistol. The pistol is fitted with ivory grips that are engraved with floral vine around a checkered panel. The center of each is decorated with an engraved Walther Banner below an inlaid blue enamel oval decorated with gold-plated "C/W" monogram on the left grip and "6.35" within an oval on the right grip.

Near mint. The pistol has 99% of the original blue finish remaining over the finely cut and flawlessly executed engraving. All of the gold inlay remains. The grips are excellent. The markings and engraving remain sharp. Mechanically excellent. This is one of the finest and possibly the only known engraved Walther Model 9 pistol signed by the engraver.
