Description:

This is a rare 1815 pattern Household heavy cavalry helmet of the elite Hanovarian Cavalry circa 1820. This unit was raised by King George III as a personal guard of the Prince Regent who later became King George IV. The black skull and peaks are topped by a high silver comb having the carved feathers of the Prince of Wales on each side. On top of the comb is a bearskin crest, brushed forward over the rayed helmet plate. Each side of the skull bears a large silver acanthus spray. The waist of the helmet is encircled by a silver carved band. The plate presents the Hanovarian coat-of-arms and the battle honors of "WATERLOO" and "PENINSULA". Two large lions head ear bosses suspend feathered chin scales of silver.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the skull has a number of small dents. The silver components have darkened with age showing loss on the high edges. The bear skin some minor hair loss. The linen lining shows minor wear.
