Elegant Victorian blue cloth Home Service Helmet for Officer's of the 24th Foot (South Wales Borderers) circa 1878. Gilt helmet star surmounted by the crown of Queen Victoria. Gilt acanthus wreath and garter circle surround a silver numeral "XXIV" topped by a sphinx and the battle honor "EGYPT". Gilt spike and crossed base. Green leather liner. Tudor rose ear bosses suspends a gilt velvet backed chin chain. Gilded metal edge on fore peak and down center of rear peak.

Excellent, with very minimal interior and exterior wear. There is some tarnish on the gilt chin chain and the brow band.
