Description:

This is a Naval Officer's bicorn hat, epaulettes and belt attributed to P.G Fyers-Turner DSC. The hat is black silk with twisted gold bullion wire on the right side with a button. The upper edge has black floral pattern lace, and the front and rear have gold bullion wire inside the folds. The sweat band is white skived leather with ink marked "6 5/8" and there is a blue silk lining with maker's label. The epaulettes are gold bullion cord and wire with a silver bullion fouled anchor and star. The underside is black leather and blue silk. There is a black cloth and leather sword belt with gold bullion and gilt hardware manufactured by Gieves. The buckle has a laurel wreath around the outside with a King's crown at the top with a fouled anchor below it. The storage tin is japanned with a decorative pattern and "P.G. FYERS-TURNER./R.N." in white paint on the lid. There is also a "RECO No 408847" plaque on the lid. The interior is lined in red cloth with a folding shelf on the inside of the lid, an oval compartment with a lid in the bottom for the belt, the hat sits over the compartment and there are two folding shelves for the epaulettes. With copies of supplements to the London Gazette showing he was awarded The Distinguished Service Cross while aboard the H.M.S. Defender in 1941 and a posthumous Distinguished Service Cross in 1942 after the sinking of the destroyer H.M.S. Kipling.

Rating Definition:

The hat is fine with some rips in the silk lining. The epaulettes are fine with some light wear and some fraying on the fringe. The belt is very good with some wear on the gilt metal. The storage tin is good with 90% finish remaining, with scattered light dents, a couple large dents, numerous scratches and some oxidation.
