The bottom of the barrel in front of the forearm is marked "4" and the lower tang is marked with the patent date behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. All blue finish with a casehardened breechblock, hammer and lever. Double set triggers and mounted with smooth walnut Schnabel forearm with an ebony forend insert and straight grip stock with nickel plated Swiss buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish with some mild thinning and edge wear. The breechblock, hammer and lever retain 98% original bright case colors. The wood is also excellent. The forearm has two small hole repairs and has been freshened with a coat of varnish. The excellent stock retains almost all of the original varnish and overall the wood shows some scattered minor dents and scratches. The buttplate retains 50% original nickel and there is an aged patina on the exposed brass. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
