Manufactured in 1862. This revolver and leather are reported to have belonged to a Civil War soldier from Company F, 173 Pennsylvania Infantry by the name of Israel Klinger. Accompanying the revolver are muster records for Klinger, Record of Burial Place of Veteran for Israel Klinger, a photo of Klinger and several other soldiers and a notarized affadavid from an individual stating that Israel Klinger was her Great, Great Grandfather. Israel Klinger mustered in on November 1, 1862 and mustered out at the rank of corporal on August 16, 1863. The 173rd Pennsylvania Volunteers Regiment was organized at Harrisburg October and November 1862. The regiment left for Washington, D.C. on November 30, 1862. Attached to the 7th Corps, Department of Virginia and 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 11th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. The 173rd served on guard duty until being mustered out on August 18, 1863. The regiment suffered 19 casualties all due to disease. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-", both sides at the breech end marked with a "C", "C" is stamped twice on the cylinder and there is an "R" directly behind the trigger guard bow and top of the back strap. The cylinder is roll engraved with the naval battle scene, as well as "COLTS PATENT No 0167". Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the partial number "0167" on the cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. The frame is cut for a shoulder stock, blade front and hammer notch rear sights, brass trigger guard and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with a visible cartouche on each side. Accompanying the revolver is a correct unmarked brown leather holster, brown leather cap pouch, brown leather belt and period "US" belt buckle.

Good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with strong original blue finish on the protected areas of the barrel and some minor pitting on the barrel and recoil shield. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The grip is very good with some lower edge wear, a few minor dings and a pleasant hand rubbed patina. The cartouches are visible, but unreadable. The cylinder scene is mostly visible and clear, and the markings are clear. The action needs work, the hammer does not hold a cock position. The leather is all fair showing heavy wear and cracking of the leather, the closure strap is absent on the holster, one of the belt loops on the cap pouch has separated. One of the leather tabs from the belt has separated and is with the belt, the other is absent. The buckle has a slightly bent end, otherwise good with an aged patina. An absolutely genuine Civil War Colt Model 1860 rig that was consigned by a descendant.
