Manufactured in 1890. It has been estimated that only about 1,000 of these "ejectorless" revolvers were manufactured, of which approximately 305 had 3 1/2 inch barrels and only about 180 in 44-40 caliber. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side and the left side of the frame is marked with the three line patent dates. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, was finished blue with a casehardened frame and hammer, and fitted with checkered Rampant Colt/American eagle relief grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 to Gordon Hardware Co. in Seattle, Washington on March 19, 1890.

Fine. The revolver has 30% blue with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina with strong traces of the original blue finish in the cylinder flutes. The frame has 30% of the case colors present, mostly in the forward portion with the balance a mottled silver gray patina, with shadows of the once present case colors. The grips are very fine having faded to brown showing some small areas of moderate wear in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. A truly exceptional, crisp Colt Sheriff's Model 44-40 revolver that would be difficult to find a duplicate as fine as this example!
