Description:

From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Army revolvers, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. This revolver has a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame, niter blue hammer and blue remaining parts. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "1559" on the frame,"119812" on the trigger guard, "73" visible on the back strap and the cylinder is un-numbered. It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "45 COLT" on the left side and the two line, two patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The rear face of the cylinder is marked "R.A.C". The loading gate is not marked with an assembly number. It has the standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with the correct smooth one-piece walnut grip with "R.A.C." stamped on the bottom of the right side.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% of the correct arsenal/factory refurbished blue finish with the balance a smooth brown and gray patina. The frame retains 90% bright case colors. Much of the bright niter blue finish remains on the hammer. The grip is also very fine with a few small minor chips and some minor wear on the lower edges. The markings remain clear. The action is excellent.
