Description:

From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Colt Single Action Army revolvers, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. This revolver has a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and hammer and blue remaining parts. The serial numbers are mixed on these "Artillery" models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "35012" on the frame, "4863" on the trigger guard, "54475" on the back strap and "0370" on the cylinder. It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" and "D.F.C." marked on the bottom of the barrel and the three line, three patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". "J.T.C." is stamped on the bottom of the frame above the serial number and "P" and "A" are on the cylinder. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "952". It has the standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with the correct smooth one-piece walnut grip absent of any markings or cartouches. The right rear trigger guard bow has the six point factory rework star present.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished. The revolver retains half of the dull blue finish concentrated mainly on the barrel, ejector housing and cylinder, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. There are some light scratches from an abrasive on the barrel. The frame retains 40% original case colors with a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. The lightly sanded, reoiled grip is good with some minor wear and dings on the lower edges and overall a few minor dents and dings. The markings are legible. The action is excellent.
