Description:

This un-serialized 3rd Model Russian features a factory experimental globe front sight and is cut for a shoulder stock. The top of the barrel rib is stamped with the one line address and patent dates marking which ends in the "reissue" date. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard and fitted with smooth walnut grips. The letter "S" is stamped on the grip strap under the left grip panel, rear of the cylinder under the extractor, barrel and barrel latch with a small letter "D" stamped on the rear of the left frame. The back strap is also stamped with the number "1" and the letter "L" under the grip panel. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard and fitted with smooth walnut grips. The back of the right grip panel has the serial number "3577". Smith & Wesson historian Roy Jinks has concluded that this revolver is a factory experimental and the numbered grip would not be uncommon on a factory experimental revolver. As stated the revolver is cut for a shoulder stock and included with the revolver is a detachable shoulder stock. The yoke and buttplate are blue with the wood having a nicely figured grain pattern. The stock has the correct "Russian" steel buttplate. Provenance: The Gary Garbrecht Collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The revolver retains 95% strong original bright blue finish showing brown patina on the high edges. The hammer and trigger guard retain nearly all of the bright and vivid original case colors. The screws retain most of the original niter blue finish. The grips are excellent with a few very minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The stock is excellent retaining 70% original blue finish thinning to brown with some minor handling marks on the wood. A fine example of an experimental 3rd Model Russian with a detachable stock.
