Description:

There were 117,000 of these revolvers manufactured between 1860 and 1868 with a only about 4,402 marked "2D. QUALITY" which were sold at a discount due to a minor casting flaw. German silver blade front sight and a notch rear sight in the cylinder stop. The frame is silver plated and the barrel and cylinder are blued along with the cylinder stop and cylinder pin. The frame on the right side under the grips is stamped "2C". Fitted with a set of smooth rosewood grips with the matching serial number stamped on the inside of the right panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, 25% of the original blue finish remains on the cylinder, cylinder stop and cylinder pin with a smooth brown patina on the barrel. The frame retains 95% of the original silver plated finish with some flaking around the left side plate which has two small holes. The grips are also very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, concentrated mostly on the left panel. 2nd quality revolvers are often faked, and this is a true example of a rare Smith & Wesson 1st Model 2nd Issue.
