Description:

This is a separate model from the .44 Double Action 1st Model and was manufactured from 1886 to 1916 with approximately 15,300 made. This revolver is chambered for the 44-40 winchester cartridge. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates. The matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel and barrel latch. Nickel finish, with blue barrel latch and trigger guard, and casehardened hammer and trigger, pinned front and notch rear sight, and fitted with smooth pearl grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the 4 inch barrel, 44 Winchester (44/40) caliber, nickel finish and that it had black hard rubber grips at the time of shipment to Mecham Arms Co., St. Louis, Mo. On July 28, 1888. Provenance Gary Garbrecht Collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 99% original nickel finish with some minor frosting on the barrel and front strap. The hammer and trigger retain almost all of the beautiful original deep case colors. The barrel latch and trigger guard retain 99% original bright blue finish with some edge wear. The grips are excellent. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A stunning example of a desirable Smith & Wesson .44 D.A. Frontier revolver.
