Description:

Manufactured from 1877 to 1891 this example is fitted with rare red mottled grips. Blue finish with casehardened hammer. Pinned front sight and notch rear sight on the latch with the barrel rib having the standard two line address/patent dates marking. The early and rare red mottled checkered grips have the S&W monogram with the right grip panel numbered to another gun. Matching serial number on butt, cylinder, latch and barrel. The revolver comes with a correct paper hinge factory box which is ink stamped "NICKEL/PLATED" on the bottom.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% original bright blue finish thinning isolated to the muzzle, cylinder and side plate. There is some minor pitting on the cylinder. The hammer retains vivid original case colors. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering and a very attractive color scheme. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with limited corner separation and some minor edge wear. An attractive revolver with one of the best sets of grips this writer can recall.
