Description:

Produced on order for the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish Contract New Model Number Three was chambered for the 44 Henry Rimfire, a cartridge that was already on the decline on the domestic market but still in demand overseas. Additionally, Springfield Armory provided the Ottoman government the services of one of their inspectors, A. F. Cameron, to serve as their representative and Chief Inspector for the contract run. According to the included factory letter, this revolver was number 3136 in the contract run, leaving the factory on 20 January 1880 for M.W. Robinson of New York City, who was the co-ordinator for the overseas transport of the arms. Blade and notch sights, with the two line address and patent markings on top of the barrel, matching serial numbers on the barrel, cylinder and butt. Checkered hardwood grips with the proper "A.F.C." inspection mark on top of the left panel.

Rating Definition:

Good, with 40% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks. Bright original case colors are present on the hammer. Grips are good, with dents and scuffs. Mechanically tight. A fine example of a hard to find foreign contract Smith & Wesson Revolver.
