Description:

This an excellent example of a Second Model Smith & Wesson Number Two revolver with a very rare 8 inch barrel. Manufactured circa 1877 to 1891. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel and barrel latch. Pinned blade front sight and notch rear sight. Nickel finish with casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger, and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "S&W" at the top and the patent date on the lower left. The accompanying factory letter verifies that this "Special Barrel Length" revolver was shipped to M.W. Robinson, Smith & Wesson's largest distributor in New York on December 18, 1886 and that it was shipped with an 8 inch barrel, nickel finish, black hard rubber grips, and that the shipment was of two revolvers in the same configuration.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% original nickel finish with only minor flaking on the frame. The hammer retains 70% original case colors. The grips are also excellent with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The barrel marking is sharp. Mechanically excellent. A very nice Smith & wesson 38 Single Action Second Model with very rare 8 inch barrel.
