Description:

This is a late war production Walther "ac 45" code P.38 Pistol with the Walther box, extra magazines, cleaning rod and Walther aluminum tin containing a cellophane wrapped package of cleaning material. The left side of the slide has the one line "P.38 [serial number] ac 45" marking. "Eagle/140" and "Eagle/359" proofs are present. The barrel flat is stamped "2759/c". The slide and frame have the serial number "2760c". The lower left side of the trigger guard bow is marked with an "M". The mixed acceptance stamps, lack of "Eagle/Swastika" proofmarks and mis-matched components are noted by Buxton in "THE P.38 PISTOL" as typical of "'ac 45" code pistols in the "c" serial number range and are symptomatic of very late war production. Buxton notes that these pistols are completely legitimate examples of the final efforts by Walther to assemble weapons during the last weeks of the war. The pistol has the dull blue military finish with phosphate safety lever and slide top cover. Fitted with ribbed grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 99% original blue military finish with excellent phosphate small parts. The grips are excellent. Mechanically excellent. The box is fair. Late war P.38 pistols with serial numbered factory boxes are very scarce. Buxton notes that small numbers of military-marked P.38 pistols were sold commercially in the 1944-45 period both to the civilian market and to officers and NCOs who were allowed to purchase their own pistols.
