Manufactured in 1862 during the Civil War. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The rebated replacement cylinder is roll engraved with the naval battle scene, is numbered "8218". The upper left rear of the barrel is marked "BB", "K" on the cylinder, and right side of barrel "P" on top of the back strap and an "H" directly behind the trigger guard bow. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number "8218" on the cylinder pin. The frame and iron back strap are cut for a shoulder stock, blade front and hammer notch rear sights, brass trigger guard and fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grip with a partially visible cartouche on the left side and a visible one on the right side.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with an area of moderate pitting on the barrel. The cylinder scene is faint. The trigger guard has a natural aged patina. The grip is about good with a crude "folk art" period carved Bowie knife on the left side, five point star and anchor on the right side, and "IXX" on the bottom. There is a moderate chip on each toe and overall some minor dents and dings. The period replaced wedge is un-numbered. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
