This is a beautiful gold plated factory engraved Colt Custom Shop Single Action Army cut-a-way revolver. The revolver features a complete gold finish, except the niter blue trigger and frame screws and factory Type "C" floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the right side of the revolver, trigger guard and back strap. The left side features a cutout at the muzzle, seven on the frame, two on the cylinder and on the upper portion of the grip. The barrel is marked with the standard one line address on top, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 44-40" on the left side and the two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame. The bottom of the frame is marked "CUT-A-WAY/ No 1". The original serial number on the revolver was "SA49423 which is marked on the left side of the grip straps under the grip and it is also marked "HMDOVE/1985/L VEGAS" on the lower left side of the front strap under the grip. Howard Dove was a Master Engraver at Colt from 1978 to 1985 so this could have possibly been one of the last guns done by him while he was employed by Colt. Vegas indicates that it was made for auction for the benefit of the engravers. Colt allowed this as a "bonus" to each of their engravers with the proceeds going to them. The revolver is fitted with smooth pearl grips. The revolver is complete in a rosewood case with pearl around the lock and red fitted velvet lining. In the case are pearl handled brush, cleaning rod and two screwdrivers, pearl oiler and a 3 inch x 2 inch x 1 1/2 inch pearl box with pearl lid. All items are adorned with the Colt logo. The original box also accompanies the revolver with Custom Shop label showing the model as P1950 - Special" and verifying the above features.

Excellent. The revolver retains 99% original gold finish with some loss on the right side of the front sight, and overall showing some light collector's handling marks. All of the original bright niter blue finish remains on the screw heads. The grips are also excellent with a few light scratches. The case is excellent. The box is good with some wear and, tattered corners and edges.
