Description:

This is a Flues Model Grade 7E Shotgun that was manufactured by Ithaca from 1908 to 1926. It has been estimated that only 22 Grade 7E Shotguns were manufactured. The included 1932 dated factory letter confirms the serial number, Grade 7E configuration and "sold for about $400.00 at the time this gun was built." A second factory letter dated 1997 states that the shotgun was manufactured in 1910. The shotgun features 3 inch chambers, choke gauges modified/modified, ejectors and dual ivory bead sights. The matte rib has an inlaid gold band at the breech. The sides of the barrels have a 3 inch wedge of a floral scroll engraving. The top of the right barrel is marked "WHITWORTH FLUID STEEL." with the marking repeated on the top of the left barrel. The flats of the barrels are jewelled and are numbered to the gun (197000). The box lock action features a scroll and floral engraving with the scrollwork extended to the break lever and trigger guard. The sides of the receiver are marked "ITHACA GUN CO" in a banner and have a gold inlaid hunting dog. The underside of the receiver features a gold inlaid game bird and an engraved game bird. The watertable is stamped with the serial number along with "7/12" which refers to the grade and gauge of the shotgun respectively. The action features double gold washed triggers and a tang mounted safety/selector. Nicely figured straight grip stock featuring Fleur de Lis style checkering on the grip area and forearm. The buttstock has a grip cap, an initial shield marked "-H-B-/BRETT/-II-/FROM/J.B. ARNOLD" near the stock toe and is fitted with a vented Hawkins recoil pad with one spacer. The forearm is numbered to the gun and has engraved hardware. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches. Comes with a leather mutton case.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The barrels retain 80% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The receiver retains 60% plus original case colors. The trigger guard retains 40% original blue finish (mostly in the protected areas) and the break lever retains most of the original blue. The wood is very fine with a couple of barely noticable hairline cracks on the forearm and some scattered minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The case is fair. And extraordinary Ithaca Shotgun!
