This is a WWII era fully automatic Model 50 SMG as manufactured by the Harrington & Richardson company. In early WWII some of these model 50 SMGs were issued as a substitute for the standard SMG by some USMC units due to the lack of availability of Thompson SMGs. These were produced in two configurations; one with a fixed wooden stock and the other with a folding wire stock for paratrooper and vehicle use. These were eventually replaced by the easier to manufacture M3 and M3A1 SMGs in late WWII. They are a blow-back operated weapon and they are cocked by retracting the cocking handle located in the cut out, on the underside of the forend. The top of the receiver is marked "MODEL 50 H&R REISING --- CAL 45/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO./WORCHESTER MASS.U.S.A. PAT PENDING". Directly below the rear sight is marked "SAFE/SA/FA", for safe, semi-automatic and full automatic. They feature a short, finned barrel similar to the Thompson SMG, with an integral compensator/muzzle break on the end, with a fixed front sight with a stamped sheet metal adjustable rear sight. They have a pistol grip walnut stock which are fitted with a flat sheet metal butt plate. This example is complete with eight original H&R-REISING marked, 20 round magazines, along with one of the original pre war, black luggage type storage cases. The interior is partitioned for the weapon and six magazines. These were commonly used by police and the FBI for storing the weapon and accessories in the trunk of their cars. As noted this is a fully functional Class III SMGs.

Very fine as professionally refurbished, with 98% of the finish overall, showing only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The case and magazines are all excellent. A very nice all complete WWII H&R Reising SMG. NOTE: This item is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, as a National Firearms Act (NFA) weapon, which has been classified as a Curios or Relic as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11.
