These H&R-Reising SMGs were originally designed/developed in mid 1940 just prior to WWII, and were produced between 1943 and 1945, by the Harrington & Richardson company. The top of the receiver is marked "MODEL 50 H&R REISING --- CAL 45/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO./WORCHESTER MASS.U.S.A. PAT PENDING". Directly below the rear sight is marked "SAFE/SA/FA", for safe, semi-automatic and full automatic. They have a short, finned barrel similar to the Thompson SMG, with an integral compensator/muzzle break on the end of the barrel. They have a fixed front sight with a stamped sheet metal rear sight, adjustable for elevation only. They are fitted with a pistol grip walnut stock with a flat sheet metal butt plate. It is complete with two original, H&R marked, 20 round magazines, one early one with the dished in sides and the other one is a late blued model with the flat sides. There were approximately 100,000 of these SMGs produced in total with almost all production carbines being issued by the USMC, during WWII. They were made in two configurations; model 50 uses a fixed wooden stock and model 55 used a folding wire stock. These were eventually replaced by the cheaper and easier to manufacture M3 and M3A1 submachine guns in late WWII.

Very fine as arsenal reparkerized with 98% of the late gray parkerized finish overall. The top of the receiver shows several areas of fine/light pitting. The walnut stock is in excellent condition with a nice light brown color overall with the left side showing a couple of areas of scratches/handling marks. NOTE: This item is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, as a National Firearms Act (NFA) weapon, which has been classified as a Curio or Relic as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
