Description:

Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver manufactured circa 1875-1889. The revolver has the distinctive web on the underside of the ejector housing and factory lanyard loop on the butt. The revolver has a blue finish with casehardened hammer and loading gate. The two-piece grips are walnut. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A." reading from the breech to the bore. The batch number "754" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grips. "754" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips. This revolver is one of the 10,000 Model 1875 Revolvers purchased by the Egyptian government and has the distinctive markings found on Egyptian contract revolvers. The left side of the barrel is marked with a five-pointed star near the junction with the receiver and "R" is stamped on the left side of the receiver near the edge of the barrel. The left grip is stamped with the encircled letters "FR". The Remington Model 1875 was intended to compete with the Colt Single Action Army revolver; it proved to be a well-designed and popular handgun. Remington manufactured an estimated 25,000-30,000 Model 1875 revolvers before production ceased in 1889.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver is all original and retains 60% plus of the high polish blue finish. Most of the blue finish is present on the barrel, cylinder and barrel web. The receiver shows the finish flaking typical of Remington revolvers and has a blue gray patina with blue finish in protected areas. The hammer retains about 80% of the case-hardened finish. The revolver shows moderate handling wear with a number of minor light scratches. The markings on the barrel and frame are clear. The bore is in good condition and the action is tight and functions well. The grips are in very good overall condition with numerous small dents and scratches. This is a rare example of a hard-to-find Egyptian Contract Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver with blue finish.
