Description:

This is a representative example of a U.S. Model 1911 .45 caliber automatic pistol as manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1914. The Springfield Armory manufactured 27,855 Model 1911 pistols between December 1912 and April 1917 and was the only U.S. Army service pistol ever actually produced within a Government Armory. The front sight is correctly machined as part of the slide and the right side is stamped with the Springfield Armory Spread Wing Eagle/Shield motif followed by "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY.", the left side is stamped with the three-line Colt patent markings followed by "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." in two lines, with the Ordnance "Shell and Flame" insignia behind the slide serrations. The right side of the frame is stamped with serial number, "No 105874", behind the slide stop hole; with the left side stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", with the small Ordnance "Shell and Flame" insignia above the magazine release button. The Springfield Armory "S" mark is stamped on the back side of the barrel bushing flange, he inside of the slide stop and on the right side of the hammer. The barrel has a single "P" proof on the right side of the barrel lug and it has the WWI, diamond pattern checkered walnut grips. This scarce pistol is accompanied by an equally scarce Audley Model 1911 leather holster with drop down belt hanger and leg strap. These holster were private purchase and feature a unique, spring loaded catch inside the holster that fits into the trigger guard hole to help secure the pistol inside the holster. The back is marked "AUDLEY/PATENTED/OCT 12. 1914". This pistol lot is complete with two scarce WWI magazines; one original Springfield Armory made magazine with doubles folds on the base plate with the lanyard loop and a second pattern, early Colt, saw cut and punch magazine with the lanyard loop on the bottom, a WWII clear plastic/water proof invasion bag, a copy of an original 1918 dated, Confidential War Plans Division Manual for the Model 1911 pistol, a green zippered plastic storage bag and a black leather, Triple-K double magazine pouch.

Rating Definition:

Fine as partially refinished (cold blue on forward slide and frame) with the balance retaining half of the original armory blued finish remaining overall with even honest wear on all the edges and high spots with the grip straps and front frame extension browning out. The grips are good with distinct checkering and diamonds on both sides, showing even honest wear overall. The Audley holster is very good plus with tight stitching with some wear and minor age cracking on the flap, with some scuffs overall. The various accessories are all very good, with the magazine being refinished.
