Description:

This is a rare example of a Russian Contract Smith & Wesson Model No. 3 Russian 3rd Model Revolver with the S&W cyrillic marking on top of the barrel rib. The Russians called these revolvers the "Cavalry Model" or "1874 Model" while in the United States these revolvers were also known as New Model Russians. The cyrillic barrel rib marking ends with the matching serial number "20907" and a Russian "HK" inspector mark followed by the letter "T". The left side of the knuckle is stamped with a cyrillic marking above the date "1874". The revolver is equipped with an integral front sight forged as part of the barrel rib and a notch rear sight on the barrel latch which were standard features on these revolvers. Matching serial number (20907) on the butt, barrel rib, rear face of the cylinder and barrel latch. The rear of the cylinder is also stamped with the letter "E" and a circled "II". The circled "II" is repeated on the top strap ahead of the large cylinder retention screw. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard and fitted with smooth walnut grips. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun. A lanyard swivel is mounted on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine to excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus original high polish blue finish showing thinning along the high edges and at the muzzle. The hammer and trigger guard retain bright and vivid original case colors otherwise fading to an attractive gray. The screw heads still exhibit vibrant flashes of their original attractive niter blue finish. The face of the recoil shield still retains nearly all of its original factory polish marks. The grips are excellent with a few very minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A rare and magnificent example of a 3rd Model Russian.
