Description:

This documented serial number 7 New Model No. 3 Frontier revolver is one of 1,286 out of the 2,072 revolvers manufactured that remained chambered for 44-40 caliber and was in one of the first shipments of this model when it was released for sale as confirmed by the included factory letter. The factory letter also confirms the caliber, barrel, finish and checkered hard rubber grips. The revolver was shipped on May 5, 1886 to Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett Co. of Chicago, Illinois. These revolvers sold for an original average price of $12.75. The top of the barrel rib is stamped with the two line address/patent dates marking. Pinned blade front sight and notch rear sight on the barrel latch. The rare single digit serial number is stamped on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel and barrel latch. The revolver has checkered S&W monogram grips with the right panel numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina showing limited light pitting. The hammer and trigger guard retain traces of original case colors. The grips are fine with some scuffing near the bottoms and a few minor handling marks. The checkering is crisp overall. Mechanically excellent.
