Description:

These double barrel deringers or "pocket pistols" were manufactured by the American Arms Co. of Boston, Mass. from 1866 to 1878 with a total production of under 5,000. Dual calibers of 32 over 22 RF. Silver plated brass frame with nickel barrels, one marked "AMERICAN ARMS CO. BOSTON MASS.", the other "WHEELER'S PATENT OCT.31, 1865 - JUNE 19, 1866". The superposed barrels rotate for loading and firing. Both side plates have been factory engraved in fine scroll and border design with a simple splash on the grip strap. Spur trigger, knurled hammer and smooth rosewood grips on a square butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrels retain 75% original nickel finish spotted down the length with some slight handling marks and a few patches of isolated pitting on the Wheeler address. All markings are clear. The frame shows pleasant age darkened patches of silver plating strong in protected areas. The grips are good with minor pressure marks and wear to the varnish. Overall a very fine example of a scarce American derringer.
