Description:

Manufactured from 1884 to 1895, this revolver was once in the Dr. Gerald Klaz collection who got the revolver from a member of the family who originally owned it. The revolver comes with a letter from "The Guns of History, Inc." and tells the interesting story regarding the inscription. It seems the revolver was originally owned by a John Cawein who thinking his wife was giving birth to a boy bought the gun in New York with the intention of having his son's name inscribed on it. Instead he had a daughter, Laura who was born on January 27, 1888. Mr. Cawein followed through with his intention and had the revolver inscribed with Laura's name. He found Jacob Glahn in Syracuse, New York and had him inscribe and engrave it for him. Laura married A.C. Headlee and the revolver was sold to Dr Klaz a number of years later by a Headlee family member. The revolver features floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the barrel, frame, cylinder flats and top strap. The back strap is inscribed "LAURA Jan. 27th 88". The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel latch and barrel. Pinned blade front and notch rear sights, nickel finish with a blue trigger guard, and casehardened hammer and trigger. Fitted with smooth pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the original nickel finish overall. The trigger guard retains 99% original bright blue finish. The hammer and trigger retain most of the original vivid case colors. The grips are also excellent with only light handling marks. The action is excellent. Overall an excellent example of a Smith & Wesson 3rd Model DA with a rich and colorful pedigree.
