Description:

This is an example of a rare Model 1928 Springfield/Hammerli International Match Rifle. One of thirty Swiss Hammerli/Martini target rifles without barrels purchased by Springfield Armory to equip the 1928 U.S. International Rifle Team. The Hammerli/Martini target rifle was considered the most accurate rifle of its type and was modified by Springfield Armory to meet U.S. Rifle Team requirements. The rifle was fitted with a 31 inch heavy barrel with globe front sight and Lyman 48 receiver sight at the Springfield Armory. The forearm is attached to the barrel by a screw rather than the wedge utilized by Hammerli. The interior of the forearm is fitted with a recess for a spare firing pin and spring. The rifle has the Swiss Schuetzen style stock, four-lever set trigger, finger rest trigger guard, molded palm rest and adjustable butt hook. The barrel is drilled and tapped for telescopic sight blocks with a Winchester A5 scope mounted. The receiver is serial numbered "459", the barrel is numbered "665" and the butt hook is numbered "1216" and "424".

Rating Definition:

Very good, 75% original blue finish with some muzzle wear and scattered light scratches on the faded receiver. The wood is good with scattered light scratches and dings with a small sanded area at the front of the recontoured cheekpiece and "459" scratched on the right side of the buttstock. The custom added palm rest is good as modified. The Lyman sight has a few lines marked for zero on the side. The scope is very good with clear optics.
